APEC voices unanimous support for priorities proposed by Peru for 2024

08:36 | Lima, Dec. 7.

Senior officials from the 21 member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, who are convened in Lima, expressed their support for the priorities proposed by Peru to address issues that will be discussed in 2024, towards the Leaders' Summit.

At the APEC Informal Senior Officials' Meeting (ISOM), Peru presented the theme and thematic priorities that will set the working route during the APEC 2024 year.

The Asia-Pacific stands out for being one of the most dynamic regions in the global economy.

In recent years, APEC has outlined a vision for a more balanced, sustainable, and inclusive economic development and, in this regard, Peru focuses its efforts on working on an agenda that allows citizens to benefit and take advantage of the opportunities presented by digital transformation in the region in order to give a new boost to economic growth.

That is why, under the theme "Empower. Include. Grow," the three priorities presented are:

Trade and investment for inclusive and interconnected growth, a priority focused on strengthening open, free, and inclusive trade, which promotes economic growth that encompasses various sectors of society, promoting interconnection, inclusion, and ensuring long-term sustainability.

Innovation and digitalization to promote transition to the formal and global economy, which seeks to promote transition towards formality of economic actors, particularly the most vulnerable.

Sustainable growth for resilient development, which seeks to promote energy transition, decarbonization of economic activities, and promotion of food security.

Throughout the discussions and activities planned for 2024, said priorities are expected to be deepened and concrete opportunities are expected to be explored to move towards more inclusive and sustainable development in the region.

The meeting also served to announce the schedule of meetings and provide details of logistical aspects and activities scheduled in the host cities of APEC Peru 2024 (Arequipa, Urubamba-Cusco, Trujillo, Pucallpa and Lima).

APEC Peru 2024

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time, after having been host in 2008 and 2016. This decision is part of the State policy of strengthening the country’s relationship with the Asia-Pacific region, while seeking to position it as an attractive destination for investments, trade, tourism, and business.
