APEC Peru 2024 delivers first-ever Women and Trade Ministers' Joint Statement

Ministers responsible for Women and Trade from the 21 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) members on Friday issued a joint statement following their meeting in Arequipa, Peru.

The statement reflects the outcomes of their first-ever joint meeting, co-chaired by Peruvian Ministers Teresa Hernandez (Women-Vulnerable Populations) and Elizabeth Galdo (Foreign Trade-Tourism).

Ministers affirmed their support to enhance women's participation and leadership in regional and global trade, recognizing that female citizens' access to markets, technology, capital and assets, skills and capacity building will contribute to inclusive and sustainable growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

Ministers will continue fostering conducive environments to allow more women to be integrated into regional and global trade.

They will also promote capacity building program to increase women’s resilience and competitiveness.


Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
