A workshop, in which customs administrations across APEC member economies presented and discussed the different programs that are being developed to promote exports aimed at micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), rural communities, women, and young people, was held on Monday as part of the various meetings within the framework of APEC Peru 2024.

The meeting was aligned with the APEC 2024 motto: "Empower. Include. Grow," which seeks to promote transition towards formality of the most vulnerable economic sectors, enabling them to engage in foreign trade in a competitive way.

The workshop "Exporting entrepreneurship: export promotion program aimed at MSMEs, rural communities, women and young people" was attended by Sunat's National Superintendent Luis Enrique Vera, Sunat's Deputy National Superintendent of Customs Martha Garamendi, and Production Ministry's Deputy MSE and Industry Minister Noela Pantoja Crespo.

Likewise, officials and representatives of APEC, the World Customs Organization (WCO), Korean Customs Service, Mexico's National Customs Agency, Indonesia's Directorate General of Customs and Excise, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Peruvian Post Office (Serpost), the Peruvian Exporters Association (Adex), and the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), participated as speakers.

Within the framework of the workshop, Sunat presented the Exporting Entrepreneurship program, which has been implemented since July 2022 and has managed to identify more than 16,000 potential entrepreneurs, train over 9,000 MSMEs, and has provided technical assistance to more than 1,000 MSMEs.

Barriers to the integration of MSMEs, rural communities, women and young people into international trade, new postal and Courier products and services, simplified customs regimes to facilitate MSME exports through cross-border e-commerce, as well as new initiatives for their inclusion in foreign trade operations, were also discussed at the aforementioned workshop.
