The organization of APEC 2024 by Peru —after having hosted it in 2008 and 2016— is being a factor for cohesion in our country, said Minister Renato Reyes Tagle, the Foreign Affairs Ministry's Senior Official for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

"And the Foreign Affairs Ministry is highly enthusiastic about being the articulator of this cohesion in Peru, which we can evidence in transversal enthusiasm," Reyes Tagle underscored in an interview with Andina news agency.

The official said that a large number of actors from civil society and the public/private sector is coming together to get involved and participate in APEC Peru 2024.

In this regard, Reyes Tagle mentioned that the APEC Citizen Peru 2024 has been created with the aim of bringing the forum closer to citizens and incorporating topics related to the population's needs into the agenda.

As part of this approach, for example, a meeting with experts on SME issues is being coordinated with the National Society of Industries (SNI) in Pucallpa, where the Small and Medium Enterprises Ministerial Meeting (SMEMM) will be held in September.

Furthermore, topics linked to economic empowerment for women are coordinated with the Ministry of Women.

The diplomat indicated that they are also working with various civil society actors from Urubamba (Cusco region), where the Tourism Ministerial Meeting (TMM) and related events will be held next June.

Together, they account for 62% of world's GDP, 48% of global trade in goods and services, plus 38% of the planet's population.
