The Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD), through the National Sports Affiliate, confirmed a total of 670 athletes will represent Peru at the 2019 Pan American Games, set to take place in Lima.
The idea is to have a significant number of national representatives to go through the next Olympic cycle heading to Lima 2019 and Tokyo 2020.
"We are likely to win medals in different disciplines, although reaching the podium in others seems complicated. We are talking about 670 athletes who will train hard towards the Pan American Games; and they all will be duly supported," said Giorgio Mautino, Director of the National Sports Affiliate.
With just a little more than two years before Lima 2019 takes place, sporting authorities are racing against time to consolidate a strong national team and, therefore, win a record number of medals at the major sporting competition.
An initiative has been developed in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank. It aims to provide support for athletes committed to Lima 2019 and those selected by federations.
