The Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Tuesday afternoon reported that the number of confirmed monkeypox cases in Peru has risen to 36, including patients in 12 districts across Metropolitan Lima, one district in Lima region, and another one in Callao region.

People with this viral infection are located in the following districts of the capital city: Surco, Jesus Maria, Pueblo Libre, Central Lima, San Martin de Porres, Los Olivos, Santa Anita, San Miguel, Rimac, Surquillo, San Borja, San Isidro; Barranca (Lima region); and Mi Peru (Callao region).

All of them have already received medical assistance, and their contacts are being identified.

Within this framework, Minsa urged the population to continue complying with the prevention measures already announced by health authorities to avoid any cases of this type.

These measures include reducing contact with people suspected of being infected, washing hands frequently, wearing facemasks properly, maintaining social distancing, and isolating from others in case of presenting symptoms of this disease.

Among the alarming symptoms associated with this infection are rashes or skin lesions, fever, headache, back and muscle pain, swollen glands, and intense fatigue.

Diagnosis

People who have any symptoms and think that they might be infected with monkeypox must call 113 from any landline or cell phone nationwide and dial option 6.

They can also go to the nearest health facility to receive care for suspected monkeypox.
