At the World Trade Organization's 14th Ministerial Conference (CM14), the Ministerial Decision on Fisheries Subsidies was adopted following a process of intensive deliberations among Members.

Peru actively contributed to this outcome through its delegation, composed of officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade-Tourism. It was led by Deputy Foreign Trade Minister Cesar Llona.

The delegation took part in consultations and negotiations that helped bridge positions and facilitate consensus.

The adopted decision welcomes the entry into force of the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies and reaffirms Members' commitment to its full implementation.

It calls for continued negotiations aimed at establishing broader disciplines to address subsidies that contribute to overfishing and overcapacity.

The decision also recognizes the importance of special and differential treatment for developing countries.

Peru reaffirms its commitment to the sustainability of marine resources and to strengthening the multilateral trading system.

Lastly, the South American country highlights the importance of advancing toward balanced agreements that foster both ocean conservation and inclusive development among member countries.
