The
Director General for Peruvian Communities Abroad and Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Pedro Bravo, on Tuesday provided details on the arrival of electoral records in Peru from abroad.
"What we have planned runs until the early hours of Thursday, April 16, but together with the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), we have allowed additional time for any flight delays, incidents, or unforeseen events. Therefore, we have set Friday (April 17) as the deadline to deliver all returned materials from our 114 consular offices," he indicated.
The ambassador noted that the material arriving in Peru includes electoral records containing results, voters' signatures, and the ballots used.
"It (the return of the materials) is one of the main responsibilities of the consul, who will arrive with the cargo, either in suitcases properly secured as diplomatic pouches. Thus, they pass swiftly through Customs, and then in Peru they are transferred to the Decentralized Electoral Process Office located in (Lima's) Jesus Maria (district)," he added.
Bravo explained that in the case of four consuls, due to the volume of materials—sometimes exceeding one ton—it was decided to transport them as cargo, while the Foreign Affairs Ministry representative travels on a commercial flight.

Assessment
At another point, Ambassador Bravo described the conduct of the general elections among Peruvian communities abroad as "very positive."
"As an overall assessment, we can say it was a true democratic celebration. Our fellow citizens turned out in large numbers, and I can even say that participation was so high that we exceeded the traditional turnout level for this type of election, which was generally around 30%. We have now surpassed that threshold and are approaching 40% participation," he stated.
In that regard, the diplomat urged waiting for official results from the ONPE, expressing hope that turnout among Peruvians abroad will reach that level, demonstrating their commitment and interest in the country's future.
