Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Teresa Mera stated that the goal is for more companies to harness the benefits of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

"It is necessary to ensure that an increasing number of Peruvian companies, especially SMEs, harness the benefits of the CPTPP and manage to place their products in one of the 12 countries of the agreement," she stated.

The government official highlighted that the forum agreed on the importance of implementing joint initiatives to boost the use of the CPTPP.

The Cabinet member mentioned that trade ministers agreed to start negotiations to modernize the CPTPP in areas such as e-commerce, services, business facilitation, trade, and women's empowerment.

"Thus, the agreement demonstrates the importance of continuing to serve as an instrument that responds to the realities of international trade," Mera told Andina News Agency.
She also highlighted that CPTPP trade ministers agreed to start the process of Uruguay's accession to this important bloc, reaffirming its position as one of the most ambitious trade agreements in the world.

The CPTPP is one of the world’s most important trade agreements. It is composed of Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Vietnam. These nations represent 15% of global GDP.
