The
Inca Trail Network leading to the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu reopened recently to more than 400 domestic and foreign tourists, guides, and support personnel or porters, the
Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) in Cusco confirmed.
Tourists entered after maintenance and conservation work was carried out on several sections of routes 1, 2, and 3, which had been affected three weeks earlier by unusual rainfall that activated ravines and caused landslides.
Visitors from the United States, France, Japan, Brazil, Canada, Spain, Colombia, Australia, Mexico, Germany, Russia, Poland, and Chile, as well as our fellow Peruvians, expressed satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment at reaching the Wonder of the World.

During this reopening, 25 organized groups entered, comprising 136 foreign tourists, 3 foreign children, 25 official tourism guides, and 240 support personnel. They began their journey from the population center of Piscacucho, in Ollantaytambo district, located at kilometer 82 of the railway.
The cultural institution carried out maintenance on retaining walls, trail platforms, channeling walls, and riverbank protection works; desilting of the Llulluchapampa stream; installation of rainwater drainage systems; and removal of loose rocks in the Unkawayqo and Falsopaso sectors, at Warmiwañusqa Pass.
Rehabilitation work was also carried out on campsites and rest areas at Llulluchapampa; at campsites 1, 2, 10, and 18 in Paqaymayo Alto; and on water intake facilities for restroom services in the Ayapata, Llulluchapampa, and Paqaymayo Alto sectors.
These actions contribute to improving visitors' safety and conditions for their stay.
Finally, the DDC announced that it will continue conservation, protection, and sustainable management efforts for the Inca Trail Network, as well as promote responsible and safe cultural tourism for a better visitor experience.
