During his visit, the government official received a report from senior military commanders on the Peruvian Army's preparedness and response capabilities in said area in the face of the natural phenomenon.
Following the inspection, the Cabinet member announced that the Army, through Infantry Battalion No. 1 and Engineering Battalion No. 211, will carry out cleaning and desilting works along rivers and ravines across the Tumbes region to reduce the risk of flooding in the event of heavy rains.
"The Army is ready and prepared. It will deploy its operational capabilities to remove sediment that has accumulated over the years in the Tumbes River. This will be done in coordination with the National Water Authority (ANA)," he emphasized.
He added that the Army has heavy machinery to carry out these tasks, including excavators, front-end loaders, skid-steer loaders, dump trucks, a tractor truck, bridge-laying vehicles, motor graders, a mobile workshop vehicle, water tankers, and lighting equipment for nighttime operations.
Minister Belaunde toured the military barracks accompanied by Army Brigadier General Julio Cesar Nuñez Gonzalez and Army Major General Carlos Rabanal Calderon.
