reported that four vulnerable young Peruvian citizens were repatriated from Russia after being deceived and recruited to serve in that country’s war against Ukraine.
The government agency specified that the Peruvian Embassy's consular section in the Russian Federation assisted and arranged the repatriation of two of them after they managed to escape from this forced recruitment.
Meanwhile, the other two Peruvians were assisted by the consular section in late July.
"All of them arrived in Peru and are now with their families. For their care, we received the valuable support of the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations, as well as the Ministry of Health," the Executive Branch institution said in a statement.
To date, the government agency has managed to evacuate 31 Peruvian citizens, of whom 28 returned to Peru and three remain in Europe by their own choice, it specified.
"Similarly, it has been officially learned that 459 Peruvians have enlisted, with 11 unfortunately reported dead, 114 missing, and three captured by the Ukrainian army," the statement added.
In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on citizens to "not be misled by false job offers, as they could fall into criminal human trafficking networks."
It also urged them to report the recruiters to the Public Ministry (Prosecutor's Office) and the Peruvian National Police.
Moreover, the government agency reminded citizens that serving in the military of any foreign state requires prior authorization from the Peruvian Government, in accordance with the Constitution.
