Peruvian citizens living abroad will be able to cast their votes on April 12 at designated polling stations, many of which are located at consulates.

Learn the details of the guidelines approved by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) to ensure the voting rights of compatriots.

The resolution

The measures to be adopted were formalized through Chief Resolution No. 000021-2026-JN/ONPE, dated February 6, 2026, within the framework of the General Elections called for Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Institutional cooperation

The resolution states that the process will be carried out in close coordination between ONPE and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, given that polling stations will be located mainly at consular premises.

In cases where consular offices do not have sufficient capacity to accommodate polling staff and voters, the rental of additional venues is provided for, depending on the number of registered voters in each jurisdiction.

Security and transparency

The document also establishes strict protocols to guarantee the security and transparency of the process, particularly regarding the shipment and return of the physical electoral records generated on voting day, scheduled for April 12.

These measures aim to ensure the chain of custody of electoral materials and the proper tabulation of votes cast by Peruvians abroad.

Polling station officials and training

Another key aspect is the regulation of procedures for the selection and training of polling station officials abroad.

Training will be conducted remotely in order to facilitate the participation of designated citizens in various countries.

Asia: 41,413 voters
Oceania: 7,918 voters

The Americas account for the largest number of Peruvians eligible to vote, followed by Europe.
