Peru continues to post strong growth rates in agricultural exports to international markets. The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) reported on Monday that agricultural exports reached US$2.22 billion in the first two months of this year (January-February), a 6.7% increase compared with sales recorded in the same period of 2025.

Of the total shipped value through February 2026, traditional agro-exports accounted for 6.4%, while non-traditional ones represented the remaining 93.6%.

During the analyzed period, traditional agricultural exports reached US$141 million, a significant 60.8% increase from 2025. They were driven by higher shipments of unroasted, non-decaffeinated coffee (US$131 million) and cane molasses (US$2 million), whose sales rose 71.9% and 40.9%, respectively.

These products explained 94.4% of traditional agricultural shipments.

Meanwhile, non-traditional agricultural exports totaled US$2.079 billion, a figure 4.3% higher than that recorded a year earlier, according to Midagri.

The leading products in the agro-export ranking during the period were fresh grapes (US$676 million, accounting for 32.5%), fresh blueberries US$265 million (12.7%), fresh mangoes US$197 million (9.5%), and avocados US$75 million (3.6%).

Higher shipments were reported for raw cacao beans at US$47 million (2.3%), fresh asparagus US$42 million (2%), animal feed US$35 million (1.7%), ethyl alcohol US$34 million (1.7%), frozen mango US$30 million (1.5%), and cochineal carmine US$25 million (1.2%), the ministry said.

These 10 products together accounted for 68.5% of the non-traditional export supply.

Through February this year, the products posting the strongest contributions to growth compared with 2025 were food preparations containing cacao (471.6%), vegetable seeds (102.2%), ethyl alcohol (62.8%), avocados (54.4%), other fresh fruit (37.5%), fresh mangoes (25.3%), animal feed (22.8%), and fresh grapes (13.9%), among the main items.

Main markets

According to Midagri, the 10 main destination countries for Peruvian agricultural exports were the United States, Netherlands, Mexico, Spain, Canada, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, England, and China.

This group of countries accounted for 81.4% of the total FOB export value during the period under review, it noted.

Likewise, agricultural exports reached US$878 million in February 2026 alone, representing a 2.8% increase compared with the US$854 million recorded in the same month last year.

"This confirms Peru as one of the world's leading food suppliers," Midagri said.

Trade balance

Midagri highlighted that Peru's agricultural trade balance posted a surplus of US$1.119 billion through February this year, 20.9% higher than in the same period last year.

The increase was driven by the higher rise in agricultural exports in U.S. dollar terms (an additional US$139 million compared with 2025).
