Non-traditional exports reached US$5.368 billion in the first quarter of this year, up 3.3% from the same period last year, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported.

This result was mainly driven by higher export prices (2.5%) and, to a lesser extent, by an increase in shipment volumes (0.7%).

Meanwhile, non-traditional agricultural shipments totaled US$754 million in March, posting 5.9% growth compared with the same month in 2025, mainly driven by a 4.7% increase in the average export price.

Volume

In volume terms, shipments rose 1.1%, supported by higher exports of blueberries, pomegranates, and avocados, whose volumes increased 63.8%, 24.1%, and 21.3%, respectively.

In the case of non-traditional fishery products, exports reached US$208 million in March, up 18.3% from the same month a year earlier.

This performance was driven by a 59.5% increase in export volume due to greater giant squid biomass availability.

Higher shipments of frozen and canned giant squid stood out, rising 235.9% and 241.9%, respectively.

In the January-March period, non-traditional agricultural exports totaled US$2.758 billion, posting growth of 4.8%.

Meanwhile, non-traditional fishery exports reached US$583 million, registering a 49.5% expansion from the same period last year.
