National Geographic: Machu Picchu one of 15 iconic places worth the effort

Machu Picchu's charm continues to win accolades from all over the world. This time, the prestigious National Geographic Travel Magazine refers to the Inca citadel as one of the 15 celebrated places worth the climb.

Written by Maryellen Kennedy Duckett, the article encourages trekkers to climb Huayna Picchu Summit to have an excellent view of a different —in fact, opposite — angle of Machu Picchu.
To be more precise, the image's caption described Huayna Picchu as "the looming peak in all those memorable images of the Inca site."

On the other hand, the piece of writing warns climbers to go slow while doing the sharply-sloped path on the way down into the archaeological site.
In addition to Machu Picchu, the magazine listed 14 other iconic spots that are worth climbing, such as Petra (Jordan), Borobudur (Indonesia), Acropolis (Greece), the Great Wall (China), Sigiriya (Sri Lanka), and Plitvice Lakes National Park (Croatia).
Other world-wonders include Mammoth Cave National Park (United States), Provence's Lavender Route (France), Avenue of the Baobabs (Madagascar), Potala Palace (Tibet), Amber Fort (India), Sydney Harbor Bridge (Australia), Leaning Tower of Pisa (Italy), and Reichstag (Germany).
According to Kennedy, the greatest reward of this travel adventure is "an inspiring perspective on the world."
