The U.S. Embassy in Peru on Thursday afternoon expressed its solidarity with Peruvian Ambassador to the United States Oswaldo de Rivero, his wife, and the residential staff after an intruder entered the diplomat's residence in Washington, D.C. without authorization.

"Together, we will continue our collaboration for the good of the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries," it said on Twitter.

On Wednesday, the Embassy of Peru in the United States reported that, early in the morning of that day, a person entered the Official Residence without authorization, causing material damage to the property.

The Peruvian diplomatic mission also reported that said person was shot by the Secret Service, adding that the Ambassador, his family, the residential staff, and the Secret Service agents were safe.

In later statements, the Peruvian Ambassador recalled details of the event, saying that it was "unusual and painful."

Likewise, De Rivero confirmed that both he and his family were completely safe after the intervention of Secret Service agents.
