Spanish monarchs visit Peruvian photo exhibition

12:54 | Lima, Nov. 14.

Peru's Culture Minister Patricia Balbuena showed King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain a preview of the exhibition Peru will present at ARCOmadrid 2019 art fair.

It should be noted the South American nation will be the event's guest country of honor on February 27-March 3.

The Spanish royals are currently paying a three-day visit to Peru. Joined by the Cabinet member, the monarchs visited the photo exhibition "Migratory Status"—dedicated to Peruvian immigrants based in Spain— at Lima's Spanish Cultural Center on Tuesday evening.

According to the minister, the Inca country's participation at ARCOmadrid will consist of diverse activities such as the program "Peru in ARCO," which features 24 national artists, eight galleries, as well as 20 exhibitions at different locations in the Spanish capital.

"ARCOmadrid enables the internationalization of our artists and the promotion of Peruvian culture through the diverse expositions (…)," Balbuena expressed.

"It will place us on the world's platform. ARCOmadrid welcomes a million visitors and near 100,000 art buyers from all over the globe," she added.

Likewise, the Culture Ministry representative recalled President Martin Vizcarra will lead the country's delegation at the event.

"That also grants relevance to our presence in Madrid. I think our presence will be felt during those months in 2019," the official said.

Furthermore, roundtables and artistic interventions will be carried out at different museums, as well as at cultural centers and spaces in the city.

Peru's participation in this exhibition —just a few years before its Independence Bicentennial (2021)— represents an important occasion to deepen and reflect on the Inca nation's historical and cultural ties with Spain
