President Vizcarra marks 200th anniversary of Liberating Expedition's arrival in Peru

09:50 | Paracas (Ica region), Sep. 8.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday led a ceremony marking the 200th anniversary of arrival of General Jose de San Martin and the Liberating Expedition in Paracas Bay.

During the event, the Head of State was accompanied by Defense Minister Jorge Chavez and Foreign Affairs Minister Mario Lopez.

On September 8, 1820 —as part of the Liberating Expedition of Peru— General Jose de San Martin landed at Paracas Bay near the Port of Pisco.

This landing constitutes the beginning of a series of events —in Peruvian history— that led to the South American country's independence.
