Peru's Regional State Council: Ministers and governors resume dialogue, seek consensus

13:45 | Lima, Aug. 18.

The Second Regional State Council meeting entered its last day of activities, with the participation of the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte, State Ministers, and regional governors, in order to reach a consensus to solve the main problems of provinces and districts across the country.

Prime Minister Alberto Otarola was in charge of opening this round of talks on Friday.

"The entire Executive Branch is available for regional governors and their technical teams so as to meet their demands and attend to them, as ordered by President Dina Boluarte," the Cabinet chief remarked.

The day before, the Head of State announced that the Public Sector Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2024, to be submitted by the Executive Branch to Congress, includes the financing of high-impact regional projects worth S/15 billion (US$4.04 billion) in key areas, such as potable water, sanitation, health, agriculture, and education.

Likewise, the head of the Ministerial Cabinet on Thursday affirmed that one of the Government's priorities will be the promotion and implementation of the southern petrochemical complex.

Regional governors

Meanwhile, National Assembly of Regional Governments (ANGR) Chairman Rohel Sanchez called on the Central Government to make political decisions with a territorial approach, thereby ensuring the presence of the State not only in regions, provinces, and districts, but also in the most remote places.

The purpose of these meetings is to unlock infrastructure projects whose implementation will benefit the most vulnerable population.

It should be noted that the First Regional State Council meeting was held on May 4, 2023, in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
