The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday affirmed that his administration will work to expand support for sports up to the furthest areas of Peru, without any discrimination.

During the recognition ceremony to honor Para athlete Angelica Espinoza —a gold medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games— the President offered to perform this task along with the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) and the Education Ministry.

The Head of State thanked Espinoza, and her coach Ivonne de La Cruz, for having placed the name of Peru at the top of the sports podium.

Likewise, the top official stressed that the Peruvian athlete's effort denotes a sign of struggle, dedication, and immense love for the country, as he encouraged children and young people to follow her example.

Furthermore, the President emphasized that the Government has a commitment towards the nation's women, recalling the recent installation of the National High-Level Commission for Gender Equality, and recognizes the efforts of each person.

Similarly, Mr. Castillo called on authorities to open spaces for women and disabled people.

"We are convinced that everything can be achieved for the love of the country and ourselves; let's not focus on the differences," he emphasized.

At the ceremony, Mr. Castillo also handed over a symbolic check for S/100,000 (about US$24,450) prize to Espinoza and another for S/30,000 (about US$7,335) to her coach.
