Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez on Thursday reported that the vaccination of all healthcare workers will be completed next week with an additional 700,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses from China's Sinopharm laboratory, which are expected to arrive on Sunday.
The government official pointed out that the delivery of vaccines —in two parts— triggered the prioritization of healthcare workers who are on the frontline of the battle against this disease, which has created some difficulties.
"The remaining doses will arrive this weekend, and the vaccination of the entire health personnel —including doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants— will be completed next week. The entire health staff in the Peruvian State are being vaccinated," she said in remarks to RPP radio and TV station.
According to the Cabinet chief, with the extension of the lockdown for another 14 days, the Government seeks a balance between citizens' need to stock up on supplies and go to work, as well as the need to restrict the movement of people because the virus moves when they move.
"We did not want to do so, but epidemiological indicators are still high despite the reduction in the movement of people. We will collect more accurate data on the positivity rate in a week, which will allow us to see if we lift the measure ahead of time," she said.
The high-ranking official believes that the fact that the movement of people has reduced about 37% is a positive aspect of the first lockdown, which is still in force.
