Interior Minister Alfonso Chavarry on Friday affirmed that, in order to fight crime and thus restore calm, all citizens must stand united, referring to joint efforts by the National Police of Peru and the Armed Forces, within the framework of the state of emergency in Metropolitan Lima and Callao valid for 45 days.

The Cabinet member participated in the presentation of Plan Halcon (Hawk Plan), which is a joint action plan between the National Police and San Martin de Porres District Municipality to combat crime.

"Here, we must all unite for this fight, which is a frontal fight to restore tranquility to the community. Rest assured that we are going to execute it along with our Armed Forces, which will provide us with the corresponding support," he indicated.

During the ceremony, the strategic plans to be developed in favor of the safety of all San Martin de Porres residents were presented, as well as the actions of police and municipal forces in deploying their prevention work in the most critical points of this district.

Likewise, the minister specified that National Police and Serenazgo (municipal police) personnel have received instructions to respect human rights and prevent abuses from being committed.

"We have just started to comply with the state of emergency decree. Today, we unite all forces (…)," he stressed, adding that residents must participate in citizen security with their authorities through neighborhood councils.

Today's event was also attended by Defense Minister Jose Luis Gavidia; San Martin District Mayor Julio Chavez; the Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Army General Manuel Gomez de la Torre; and National Police General Commander Vicente Tiburcio.
