The
groups that are directly fighting COVID-19 will be the first to be inoculated against the virus, as soon as the first doses arrive in Peru, said Antonio Pratto, member of the recently-created Vaccine Command.
"We surely have to start with those on the front line of the pandemic, that is, the health team, doctors and nurses, as well as members of the National Police and Armed Forces, and the most vulnerable people will come after them," Pratto said in statements to TV Peru.
He explained that efforts are being coordinated through meetings with authorities and laboratories in countries where COVID-19 vaccine tests are underway.
Additionally, he said, there has been progress in the coordination with Health Ministry (Minsa) authorities, including members of the working group that prepares the timeline to be met when the vaccine arrives in Peru.
According to the Vaccine Command member, the Peruvian Government is in contact with laboratories abroad to ensure the purchase of the vaccine once it becomes available.
Within this framework, the Head of State affirmed that this measure was taken as other decisions were made, with the aim of "being on the front line in the distribution of the vaccine."
