Peru President: Developing regions' tourism potential is key to creating more jobs in Peru

19:02 | Chachapoyas (Amazonas region), Dec. 13.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Friday pledged to work for the development of Amazonas region, the country, and the tourism industry, noting that Peru has a great tourism potential that needs to be exploited in order to generate greater benefits for the population.

Speaking during the opening of Tingo-Kuelap Cable Car System Boarding Station Highway, the Head of State assured that the number of visitors will rise, thus benefiting local businesses, if access to lesser-known tourist routes is improved.

"Providing tourists with the necessary conditions is key, so that they can reach the country, visit several tourist attractions, return home satisfied, and tell others about their experience," Mr. Vizcarra emphasized.

In this sense, the Peruvian leader recalled that —two years ago when he served as Transport and Communications Minister— Kuelap lacked accessible routes to enable tourists to get in.

Therefore, the sector decided to finance the Tingo Highway Project and pave the path, he said.
