Pedro Castillo remains in the facilities of the National Police Special Operations Unit (Diroes) in Lima's Ate district, where Barbadillo Prison is located.
The same reports indicate that Castillo arrived at the penitentiary center on Wednesday night.
The ex-President, who has been constitutionally impeached and removed from office by Parliament, delivered a televised address to the nation on Wednesday in which he announced the temporary dissolution of Congress and the establishment of an emergency government.
A few hours later, Parliamentarians approved an impeachment process against him with 101 votes in favor, 6 against, and 10 abstentions, after which the presidential succession established in Article 115 of the Political Constitution proceeded.
Afterwards, Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra was sworn in as the new President of Peru, thus becoming the first woman to hold the highest office of the nation.
It should be noted that former President Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000) has been serving his sentence in the facilities of Barbadillo Prison.
The Public Ministry led the arrest of Pedro Castillo for the alleged crime of rebellion —regulated in Article 346 of the Penal Code— for having violated the constitutional order after decreeing the dissolution of Congress.
