The National Police of Peru (PNP) will create a special squad whose exclusive mission will be to combat crime involving foreign citizens in Peruvian territory, the institution reported on Tuesday.
This elite group will be part of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (Dirincri).
Likewise, it will be composed of investigators from the Homicide Division and supported by other divisions such as the Robbery and Kidnapping Divisions.
Within this framework, the agent responsible commanding the squad will be experienced Colonel Victor Revoredo Farfan —who led the successful operation in Lima's Punta Negra district, where more than 100 Venezuelan citizens —allegedly engaged in criminal activities— were recently detained.
Also, the
police team will replicate in a sustained manner the methodology applied in the Punta Negra operation, which had an important intelligence component, combined with the
police investigation work and the surprise factor intervention.
To this end, the special brigade will also have the support of the General Directorate of Intelligence (Digimin), as well as of the Intelligence Directorate (Dirin), and —if necessary— the National Police's Special Tactics Unit (Suat).
Finally, the agents recruited for the special team have solved several cases involving foreign citizens. Consequently, their gained experience dealing with criminal gangs —made up of foreigners— will be very useful.
