The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Tuesday stressed that Peru is committed to the global strategy in the fight against terrorism —a scourge he condemned and rejected.

"Peru is committed to international peace and security, respect for international law, and an inclusive agenda," Mr. Castillo said during his participation in the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).

"We condemn and reject terrorism in all its forms," he stressed.

Within this framework, the Head of State reminded his peers that Peru had "suffered terrorist violence and managed to impose itself against it."

"Terrorism has never been and will never be a means for social transformation; violence only generates destruction and human rights violations; its victims are the poorest and the dispossessed," he added.

The top official affirmed that this practice "violates human dignity and is irreconcilable with the values of any democratic society."

Referring to women and girls, the President affirmed that his administration "will fully guarantee their rights and will eliminate all discriminatory norms and social practices" against them.

"We must establish concrete gender equality. All legal, social, and economic obstacles that prevent the empowerment of women and girls must be eliminated," he underlined.

The President also considered that the new Global Social Pact promoted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres "must take a leap forward in the effective exercise of women's rights, which are human rights."

"My government will do so," he concluded.
