Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Gustavo Meza-Cuadra received members of a German medical mission who arrived in the South American country to support the diagnosis and effective containment of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Torre Tagle, the headquarters of Peru's Foreign Affairs Ministry, reported that microbiologist Michael Nagel and epidemiologist Felix Drexler will promote scientific cooperation among National Health Institute (INS), Robert Koch Institute, Charité Medical University of Berlin, and German Agency for International Cooperation or (GIZ).

The medical mission —which served in Lima, Tumbes and Loreto regions— delivered a donation of 100,000 molecular tests and laboratory materials, in addition to the 30 mechanical ventilators provided last May.

The cooperation has included training for municipal personnel in water and sanitation issues, as well as relevant logistical support for the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci).
