The
Huascaran Archaeological Park, located in the highlands of
Ancash region, has established itself as the principal tourist attraction of this region, as confirmed by the recent long Holy Week break, when it received 11,592 visitors.
Regarding the travel choices of foreign tourists, the most popular tour was the tour of the lakes in the Llanganuco Valley – Chinancocha and Orconcocha Lakes.
However, according to the Huascaran Archaeological Park Office, most locals opted to visit the Mateo snow-capped mountain and the Olympic Point.
The day with the highest number of visits was Friday, April 7, when the destination welcomed 4,793 tourists.
Fewer visits
Although tourist activity was observed, the truth is that the number of visits to the National Park fell 22% compared to last year.
For instance, Llanganuco —the most popular place this year— drew 8,090 visitors in 2022, which is 1,345 more tourists than in 2023.
It should be noted that heavy rains were reported in high Andean areas of Ancash during the Holy Week break, which hindered access to the highlands. This might have resulted in the reduction of visitors.
