Judiciary orders preventive detention of Peruvian Soccer Federation President

The Judicial Branch on Friday ordered the preventive detention for 18 months of Peruvian Soccer Federation (FPF) President Edwin Oviedo.

Oviedo is under investigation for allegedly being the leader of Los Wachiturros de Tuman criminal organization and having ordered the assassination of two Tuman sugar factory union leaders. The company was under control of the said entrepreneur.

As is known, the judiciary ordered preliminary detention for Edwin Oviedo last Thursday for his alleged participation in a criminal organization known as the Port's White Collars.

Within this framework, Oviedo is being investigated for alleged influence peddling, following the release of phone conversations and testimonies of cooperating witnesses, who affirm he used to give monthly sums of money to dismissed Supreme Judge Cesar Hinostroza in exchange for judicial favors.
