INEI: Peru surpasses 17.5 million workers in 2025

Peru’s employed population reached 17,575,200 people in 2025, marking a 1.5% increase from the previous year, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).

INEI Chief Gaspar Moran Flores said the figures are based on the National Permanent Employment Survey (EPEN), which tracks labor market trends across the country.

By age group, 47.1% of those employed are between 25 and 44 years old. Workers aged 45 and over account for 39.2%, while those between 14 and 24 represent 13.7%.

Regarding gender distribution, women make up 44.5% of the workforce, compared with 55.5% for men.

In terms of education, 41.9% of workers have completed secondary school. Another 21.4% hold a university degree, while 17.1% have non-university higher education. The remaining 19.6% have primary education or less.

By economic activity, services account for the largest share of employment at 41.7%. Agriculture, fishing, and mining follow with 24%, ahead of commerce at 19%, manufacturing at 8.6%, and construction at 6.7%.

INEI reported that the average monthly income from work stood at S/1,887.20 (about US$536) in 2025, representing a 6.9% increase (S/121.30; about US$34) compared with the previous year.
