The Organization of American States (OAS) Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) began a preliminary visit to Peru on Wednesday, as part of its participation in the 2026 General Elections.

The delegation held a meeting with National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Roberto Burneo, who presented the work carried out by the electoral body to conduct the elections scheduled for Sunday, April 12.

Earlier, mission members held talks with National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) Chief Piero Corvetto and the institution's cabinet, the hemispheric body stated on X.

The OAS EOM is headed by Victor Rico Frontaura. It includes Sebastian Kraljevich, Gerardo de Icaza, and Gerardo Sanchez. The purpose of its preliminary visit is to follow up on the ongoing electoral process.

In addition to meeting with electoral bodies' representatives, the mission will hold high-level sessions with Executive Branch officials, various political actors, and civil society members.

"These meetings will allow the (Electoral Observation) Mission to learn firsthand about different perspectives on the development of the current democratic process in Peru," the OAS reported.
