reiterated Thursday that he is promoting a supplementary credit to finance scholarships offered by the Peruvian State.
Within this framework, the Head of State expressed hope that the Legislative Branch will approve it this week.
"We are promoting a supplementary credit to fulfill and finance that type of scholarship. The only condition is that scholarship recipients funded by the State commit to returning for a certain period," Balcazar told Exitosa radio station.
In that regard, the top official said he expects Parliament to approve this week the supplementary credit to finance Beca Bicentenario (Bicentennial Scholarship) and Beca 18 (Scholarship 18) programs.
"It is necessary to decisively promote this type of scholarship. I believe Parliament must schedule it as soon as possible to fulfill a long-standing aspiration of Peruvians," Balcazar expressed.
"The funds to be allocated come from people's taxes," he said, highlighting the importance of education as a driver of national development.
The president also addressed the situation of the State-owned Petroperu, stating that the plan developed with the Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversion) involves financing through a trust fund, on the condition that the board of directors is replaced.
“In other words, we will no longer provide funds as before. There is criticism that the money delivered under Dina Boluarte and President Jose Jeri was not well managed. To prevent that from happening, we have set a condition: the Petroperu board must be replaced,” he pointed out.
In addition, the Head of State said he was unable to finish his speech about the Jewish people, during the Lima Chamber of Commerce's anniversary. He added that his words ended up being misunderstood.
In that regard, he stated that his government is a staunch defender of the Jewish state and of the victims of the Holocaust.
