The Peruvian Government on Thursday sent 26 tons of humanitarian aid —including non-perishable food and other supplies— to Madre de Dios and Puno in order to respond to the needs of the people affected by road blockades in these regions.

Ministers Nancy Tolentino (Women) and Jorge Chavez (Defense) supervised the delivery of the shipment.

The above-mentioned government officials thanked the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the non-governmental organization Shoulder to Shoulder, Agra, and the Christian Mission Camino de Vida for their donations.

The Women sector's head stressed that priority will be given to feeding children in both regions.

The Cabinet member noted that part of said aid will go to four care centers of the National Family Welfare Program (INABIF) and to a comprehensive center for development and family, located in the city of Juli (Puno region).

For his part, Minister Chavez noted that the Armed Forces are working to re-open the routes that were blocked by segments of the population that are dissatisfied with the current government.

In this regard, he preferred not to state the date on which this task is expected to be completed.

Strike without violence

Regarding the demonstrations and the national strike called to be held starting today by the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP), the Defense sector's head called for holding them without riots.
