Peru: Government promotes mining contracts between large-scale and artisanal miners

14:24 | Lima, Jun. 19.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), through the Directorate-General for Mining Formalization (DGFM), participated in the signing ceremony of 10 new exploitation contracts between Pan American Silver and the San Blas de Algamarca Artisanal Miners Association (Amasba), held in Cajamarca, northern Andean Peru.

The signing of the contracts took place within the framework of an agreement signed in April 2024.

It allows for the establishment of an operating area within the Shahuindo mining concession, operated by Pan American Silver, where artisanal miners can carry out extraction activities.

The framework agreement, promoted by Minem, enables the signing of exploitation contracts through the coordination of efforts between large-scale and small-scale mining, aiming to strengthen the comprehensive mining formalization process established by national legislation.

During this event, exploitation contracts were signed by representatives of the companies Sheridan Mining Exploration El Combe EIRL, El Combe Mining Explorations EIRL, Copermin Perugol EIRL, Secominer SAC, Jesús La Luz de mi Vida EIRL, and Minería y Exploración El Cerro Colorado EIRL.

Additionally, mining exploitation contracts were signed by the following citizens: Reyna Paula Baca Briceño, Raul Evangelista Crespin, James Evangelista Crespin, and Walter Evangelista Crespin.

It is worth noting that the first individual exploitation contracts between Pan American Silver and Amasba members were signed at Minem's headquarters last December to authorize extraction activities in the Shahuindo mining concession, and this process continues to move forward by mutual agreement between the parties.

Minem which leads the comprehensive mining formalization process— reaffirms its commitment to promoting the signing of exploitation contracts between large-scale mining companies and small-scale mining producers, with the goal of integrating this segment into the formal economy and generating greater benefits for Peru.
