The Government of Peru congratulated the President-elect of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, who won the elections last Sunday, and reaffirmed its full commitment to continue strengthening and expanding the bilateral relationship.
"Peru extends its fraternal congratulations to Yamandú Orsi for having been elected President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay in the second round of the presidential elections," the Presidential Office expressed in a brief message released via social media.
It added that the Andean country, in expressing "its sincere wishes" for the success of the new Uruguayan Government, reaffirms its full commitment to continue strengthening and expanding its bilateral relationship, "characterized by friendship, cooperation, trade, and the common defense of democratic values."
Orsi became the President-elect of Uruguay on Sunday, after defeating Alvaro Delgado by just over 90,000 votes, according to official data provided by the Electoral Court.
With 98.65% of the votes counted, the Frente Amplio (Broad Front), made up of Orsi and Carolina Cosse, obtained 1,179,454 votes, while the Partido Nacional (National Party) received 1,086,758.
These figures prove that the Frente Amplio maintains a lead of 92,696 votes and obtained 107,628 more votes than in the presidential and parliamentary elections dated October 27.
"I will be the president of national growth," Orsi announced after winning the elections and stating that he will resort to dialogue to find the solutions needed by Uruguay.
"I will be the president who calls for national dialogue time and again to find the best solutions. Of course, with our proposals, but also listening carefully to what others tell us," he emphasized before thousands of supporters.
