Peru, through its
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, congratulated Ecuador for the successful sectional elections and the referendum called by the Executive Branch.
Via Twitter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this proves the soundness of democratic institutions in the neighboring country.
"Congratulations to the people and Government of Ecuador for the successful sectional elections and referendum held today (Sunday), which prove the soundness of Ecuador's democratic institutions," the Ministry said in the tweet on Sunday.
On the Election Day, Ecuadorians had the opportunity to elect new provincial prefects and mayors, as well as members of the Council of Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS).
Moreover, the Government of that country called a referendum to amend the Constitution on issues related to safety, democracy, State-run institutions, political movements, and environment.
