The Governments of Peru and the United States on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that seeks to foster investment in critical minerals in Peru.

This strategic agreement —signed during a visit by a mission of U.S. businesspeople to our country— is designed to boost investments in a sector that is crucial for energy transition and the technological industry.

Furthermore, it will strengthen bilateral cooperation, as well as ensure a diversified and sustainable global supply of these essential resources.

During the signing ceremony, Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea underscored that "the signing of this very important initiative commits not only the Government of Peru but also the Peruvian State."

The Cabinet member stressed that the agreement was signed during an extraordinary visit by U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and Environment, Jose W. Fernandez, accompanied by a delegation of investors and trade guilds from the United States.

In turn, U.S. Under Secretary Fernandez emphasized the importance of the agreement and the desire to continue strengthening cooperation between his country and Peru in the area of critical minerals.

The MoU will facilitate the identification of critical mineral mining and processing projects that can benefit from joint investment and co-financing; promote the holding of workshops, seminars, and conferences; thusencouraging the involvement of universities for research projects in this field and the enhancement of professional skills.

It will also promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences to improve technical and management capabilities in both countries' mining sector so as to strengthen its competitiveness.

The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that this document reflects the shared commitment of Peru and the United States to address global challenges and make the most of opportunities in the critical minerals sector.

This collaboration will strengthen both countries' economies, as well as contribute to a more sustainable and technologically-advanced future.

The signing ceremony took place at Peru's Foreign Affairs Ministry headquarters.
