stated that Peruvian citizens deported from the United States will have all the support they need to reintegrate into their country.
He said the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in permanent contact with U.S. authorities, through the Embassy in Peru and our Embassy in Washington, D.C., in order to preserve the rights of Peruvians who are deported.
In this regard, the
Peruvian Ministry has ordered that the
Consulates General of Peru redouble direct communication with U.S. immigration authorities so as to provide them with immediate information on detained compatriots and give them access to the detention facilities, allowing them to properly exercise their consular protection duties.
The government official added that legal advisory services on immigration matters have been enhanced with additional financial resources for the benefit of our fellow citizens.
Active collaboration with local charities and pro bono law firms is also being fostered.
Consulates General in the U.S. are conducting communication campaigns aimed at the Peruvian community, emphasizing the importance of knowing the contact information of their consulates, keeping their documentation up to date, avoiding risky situations, and staying aware of regulatory changes.
The consular network in the United States has been strengthened with the Consulates General in Salt Lake City (Utah), Phoenix (Arizona), and Seattle (Washington).
Additionally, the capacity of our consular offices in transit countries has been increased to handle possible repatriation flows to Peru of fellow citizens who require it.
At the same time, the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
through the Intersectoral Working Group for Migration Management, has been coordinating strategies and specific measures to support the reintegration of returned compatriots, including access to employment, educational services, healthcare services, emotional support, among others.
This Roundtable includes the Comprehensive Health System (SIS); the Ministries of Health, Women-Vulnerable Populations (MIMP), Development-Social Inclusion, Education, Labor-Employment Promotion, Production, Interior; as well as the National Superintendence of Migrations; the Peruvian National Police; the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC); among others.
Schialer reaffirmed that the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to safeguarding our compatriots' well-being, ensuring access to consular services, legal support, and dignified treatment.
The government agency urges the Peruvian community in the United States to stay informed through official channels of the Consulates for any inquiries or assistance.
