Culture Minister Leslie Urteaga on Sunday affirmed that dialogue is the only way for the country to be united and that culture is a tool to achieve peace.

The government official stated that the Executive Branch categorically rejects violence, wherever it comes from, so it condemns the violent acts that occurred last Saturday in Puno.

In this regard, Urteaga lamented the burning of public institutions in Juli, as well as the road blockades in the high plateau region and the obstruction of the passage of ambulances transporting patients.

"That is precisely why we call for unity again. I believe that the only way for our country to be united is through dialogue. Culture is a tool, it is an instrument that allows us to reach that peace," Urteaga told TV Peru.

The head of the Culture sector remarked that the Government will not tire of insisting on the need to call for dialogue and to continue working together.

In addition, the Cabinet member stressed that there are a number of unmet demands that are historical and have been ignored for many years.

However, she underscored that the right to protest must be exercised peacefully.

"I call for reflection, for dialogue among our brothers and sisters in all over Peru, not just in one region," Urteaga said, noting that this is the path to achieve the peace the country so badly needs.
