The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, met with members of transportation workers' unions in the Acho area of Lima's Rimac district on Wednesday.

The Head of State, who walked from the Government Palace, held a meeting with the transportation workers on the day they halted operations in protest against insecurity affecting them.

Accompanying the top official were Ministers Vicente Tiburcio (Interior) and Aldo Prieto (Transportation-Communications).

In the area, the President met with transportation workers' union leader Martin Ojeda, along with other union members.

The gathering was held at the itinerant security unit in Acho.

Last Monday, the President took part in a meeting with transportation workers in San Juan de Lurigancho district, where he pledged to strengthen coordination with this union.

Before the transport workers, the Head of State said the Executive Branch was addressing both the urgent and structural issues affecting this sector.

He noted that measures related to the latter were being put in place because, due to time constraints, they would not yield immediate, tangible results.

In this regard, the top official said the urgent priority was to curb the surge in crime, and that his administration's efforts were focused on this goal.

He indicated that Law No. 32490 would be approved by the Council of Ministers no later than January 17 and published the following day in the Official Gazette El Peruano.

"This is a joint effort — on our side, through the regulatory framework and its implementation. (…) We are going to redouble our efforts," he added.

Similarly, the President said coordination with the Public Ministry (Prosecutor's Office) and the Judiciary would be strengthened.

Subsequently, the Head of State held a meeting with the drivers who were gathered outside the itinerant security unit.

At the site, he listened to their complaints and requests regarding the insecurity faced by this sector.
