Peru: Presidency authorizes budget allocations to JNE for 2026 elections

The Presidency of the Republic said in a statement to the public that it authorized a budget transfer to the National Elections Board (JNE) to finance the electoral processes scheduled to take place in the country this year.

"The Presidency of the Republic authorized a budget transfer within the Public Sector Budget for Fiscal Year 2026 in favor of the National Elections Board (JNE) and the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) to finance expenses associated with the 2026 General, Regional, and Municipal Elections," the statement indicated.

It noted that the transfer amounts to up to S/702,430,278 (US$208,870,139) and was made official on Thursday through Supreme Decree No. 021-2026-EF, published in the Official Gazette El Peruano.

"This represents an initial transfer of resources to the electoral authorities, in addition to the S/1.470 billion (US$437,109,723) included in the 2026 budget law and the S/538 million (US$159,976,212) allocated in 2025, thereby ensuring the timely and efficient organization of elections during the current year," the document specified.

It added that the Executive Branch is addressing requests from the electoral authorities for budget allocations within the Public Sector Budget for Fiscal Year 2026 to cover expenses associated with the electoral processes to be held this year.
