The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Friday affirmed that, by joining forces with the private sector, Peru will become the South American Pacific's maritime "hub" towards the Asian continent due to the Chancay Port Terminal's entry into operation.

"Thus, by joining forces with the private sector, which we support determinedly, we will turn Peru into the maritime 'hub' of the South (American) Pacific towards the Asian continent through this Chancay Port Terminal that we visited today," she expressed.

The top official pointed out that electric cranes will reduce waiting times and increase the port's loading capacity.

"This milestone marks the beginning of a series of scheduled arrivals to bring to the country all the equipment necessary for the operation of the Port of Chancay, the start of which is scheduled for November, within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum 2024," she said.

The Head of State recalled that in its first stage this port terminal received a US$1.4 billion investment, generating more than 9,000 direct and indirect jobs. The completion rate currently stands at 80%.

Besides, Mrs. Boluarte explained that initially it will consist of four docks for the arrival of ships with capacity for more than 18,000 containers, while Colombia, Ecuador, and Chile will be able to bring their merchandise for direct departure for China.

"Therefore, we will transform the way trade is conducted with Asia," she added.

Furthermore, the top official highlighted improvements in international trade, since cargo from South (American) Pacific countries destined for Asia, and from the Asian continent to this part of the world, can be enhanced.

"Our producers will be in a better position with their foreign peers; SMEs will also be able to strengthen their capacity by participating in production chains and entering new markets," she concluded.
