Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros said hosting the Dakar 2018 in Peru translates into an impact of more than US$350 million.
Likewise, he said the event provides an ideal platform to showcase the country's brand image to 190 million spectators.
"[…] showcasing the country's image as a tourist destination is essential. The whole world is going to be looking at us," Ferreyros underlined.
The
route "meets the requirements, as it protects the country's heritage and respects its protected areas." Plus, it was designated after serious efforts between
Dakar and the
Government.
Taking precautions
On the other hand, Ferreyros assured preventive measures are being taken to deal with adverse weather conditions, mainly heavy rains. Although he admitted there is no evidence of a future weather-related problem in this regard.
"It's been a tough year, with rains, particularly in northern Peru. Precautions are being taken in case further rains come. However, they are expected to be light," he explained following the announcement of Dakar 2018 official route in Paris.
