Peru’s Muaythai team was crowned world champion in Sweden thanks to victories by Antonia Shevchenko and young fighter Alexander Chavez.
The national squad grabbed its second gold medal at the IFMA Muaythai World Championship. Shevchenko saw a triumph in the 63.5 kg category due to rival’s walk-over.
"Rival did not want to show up. Antonina Shevchenko wins […]. Second gold medal for Peru," the Peruvian Muaythai Federation posted on Facebook.
The podium was climbed by the Russian-Peruvian athlete Shevchenko, followed by Russian Svetlana Vinnikova, whereas Turkish and French representatives shared the third position.
It must be noted Alex Chavez claimed the Muaythai World Championship’s first gold medal.
At age 15, he was crowned in the 44 kg category after beating Filipino Ghen-Yhan Berdon.
