United States President Donald J. Trump will attend the Summit of the Americas in Peru and later pay a visit to Colombia, EFE news agency has reported citing diplomatic sources in Washington D.C.
This will be
Mr. Trump's first trip to Latin America, after having officially taken office in January 2017.
It must be noted the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry has not yet received any official confirmation on the matter.
The Summit of the Americas —which brings together heads of state and government of the Hemisphere— will address shared political aspects, affirm common values, and allow making
commitments on concerted actions.
The 8th Summit of the Americas' main topic will be the treatment of
corruption impacts on democratic institutionalism, governance, and sustainable development objectives adopted by the international community in the 2030 Agenda.
Based on the results obtained in this diagnosis, concrete courses of action will be suggested to face the identified problems.
According to organizers, the event will focus on three axes:
democratic governance and corruption; corruption and sustainable development; cooperation aspects, international institutionalism, and public-private partnerships.
