President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski invited Peruvian nationals to join national holidays celebrations by attending main squares across the country and participating in commemorative activities.

The Head of State released a video message inviting citizens to take part in the festivities organized on the occasion of Independence Day.

"Don't forget to spread the word about July 28; let us join together on Independence Day. Meet you at the main square!" Mr. Kuczynski said in a Facebook video.

Independence Day

Peru got its independence from the clutches of Spanish rule on July 28, 1821. It was this day when the first edition of Peru's flag was unfurled by General Jose Francisco de San Martin.

The independence process came to an end with the Ayacucho Battle in December 1824.
