18:59 | Lima, Jan. 21.

As part of his last activity on Peruvian soil, His Holiness Pope Francis told Peruvians he carries them in his heart.

Remarks were made as he bid farewell to the over one million Catholics gathered for the massive service he officiated at Lima-based Las Palmas Air Base.

The Head of the Catholic Church described the Inca country as "a land of hope, given the wealth of its traditions and customs that have marked the soul of these people."

Addressing the young, Pope Francis told them to discover the wisdom of their grandparents, the elderly, whom he asked to teach the younger generations "the wisdom of the road to Heaven."

The Holy Father went on to urge them all not to be afraid, and to become the saints of the 21st century

"Hope in God does not disappoint. I carry you in my heart. May God bless you and, please, I ask that you do not forget to pray for me."

Pope Francis also thanked President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, civil authorities, volunteers, regional ecclesiastical authorities, the Peruvian Episcopal Conference and the commission that organized his visit for their hard work.

"I thank Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani, Archbishop of Lima, for his words; [I thank] my bishop brothers for their presence, and all of you who have allowed for this visit to leave an indelible imprint in my heart," he added.

"Meeting with you has been good for me. Thank you," the Holy Father concluded.
