His Holiness Pope Francis on Sunday afternoon officiates a major mass in Lima-based Las Palmas Air Base before hundreds of thousands of Catholic believers.
The service is the last activity in the Holy Father's four-day itinerary in the Inca nation, which also included visits to cities
Puerto Maldonado and
Trujillo.
The Head of the Catholic Church arrived
at the venue at around 3:40 PM (local time) amid tight security, as was the case in all of his official activities in Peru.
Prior to the service, Pope Francis
rode the Popemobile along the internal circuit established at the air base to greet the crowds of overjoyed attendees.
Based in Lima's Surco district, Las Palmas Air Base has 17 access gates.
The event is expected to gather more than one million believers.
